Does anyone know about how much in general it may cost to put a privacy wood fence up in your back yard? The yard is not wide but narrow. I am not sure of the exact footage though. I am just looking for some rough estimates

New:
A ball park figure would be $100 to $150 per 8 foot section all inclusive (labor/materials).
Approximately 1/2 to 1/3 that if you do it yourself.

About 1/4 that or less if you can scavenge wood. Did this myself. Contacted a fencing company, and mentioned that I would like to recycle the wood off some of their jobs, and that I would haul away all materials if I took wood from a job-site. I then cut the bottom (rotted) foot off the fence boards.

It took 2 months, and the wood from 6 of their job-sites. All of which was being replaced as the properties were in escrow. Fenced over 400' which looks quite nice as it is made of weathered redwood. The same fence new would have been about $7,500. Did it for $1,200 and some sweat.

No, you're not responsible for half the cost. If it's on your property, you should tell him to remove the fence at once. If you allow it to stay, he can claim the property that the fence is enclosing as his if it stays up too long. He's preventing you from the use of your property and this needs to be corrected as soon as possible. You should have some legal consultation about this. You could lose some of your property. If he gets you to pay for half of it, he can claim that you agreed that the fence marks the property line because you paid that half. Get the fence removed. If you know for a fact that it's on your property you have every right to remove it without his consent or knowledge.

it really depends on some of these: are you doing it yourself, or hiring out? Using treated wood, or untreated...
In indiana, Most treated 6x8 panels of treated are around 50-60 bucks....untreated can be as cheap as 25....gotta look around though:) I'm guessing for posts, panels, cement (if you cement your posts) $600-700....to do it right:)
