Although the name "Zaphod" may sound unique and so totally cool right now, I don't reccommend bestowing that kind of name on a child, unless he is destined to go into show business. And even then, it's an "iffy" choice at best. Studies have shown that weird and unusual names can prove to be a hinderance to a person whether they are in school and suffering a lot of teasing and bullying at the hands of the other kids, or applying for a course at university, or going for a job interview. If you're so hung up on the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, why not choose "Arthur" or "Ford" , or even "Marvin " for a boy, or "Tricia" for a girl. Those are normal names and you hear them often enough.

I think its great, would you go for the full title of zaphod beeblebrox or are you just sticking at zaphod? How about Trillian if you have a girl?

ok Zaphie for a girl is nice but Zaphod!!?!?! Do you want your child finding out that they may have been named after a two headed alien from a book about Hitchhiking???

Can you imagine how he'll feel when he's older?

Sounds awfully close to "cephalopod" which is the squid and octopus family.

Imagine what his fellow 7th graders will do with that!?!?

Also, strange names may not serve him well in the professional world either. Would you call somoone named Zaphod in for an interview? I'm not sure I would.

F*cking great name. In fact my dog is pretty ancient and likely to snuff it this year so I may name her replacement Zaphod. Cheers dude for the idea

Not keen....depends on your lifestyle and surroundings? If you live in a trendy kind of area where most of the other children have unusual names - it may work - if the baby's friends are all going to be Jack, Chloe, Ethan, Emma....maybe not. Think about when their your age - would you like that name??

Sound like science fiction. Kids are mean, and he would need a therapist if you give him that name. Just curious... Is your wife ok with this name?

not a really traditonal name so I'd say go for it but if you want a real original name go to BabyNamesWorld.com got really fascinating names on there. Go for a name thats original and sparky.

I like unique names, but I try to picture a manager looking at them on a resume twenty years from now. If you must, you must, but imagine the playground riticule.
