Hi Holly,
I'm the one who answered your other question about Blizzard Beach versus Typhoon Lagoon. You mentioned your son is 13... that's such an awesome age for Disneyworld!! My sons are 12 and 14 and we found that was a great age for ALL of us to make the most of such a big trip!
As for the best hotel, this is what I can recommend:
If money is no object, then the Polynesian is pretty amazing... that's the one my two teens said they would have chosen. BUT... if you're like us, we don't mind staying in a budget minded hotel since all we're doing there is sleeping anyway. We opted for the Pop Century Resort, and we're really glad we did. It was fine for the four of us - my two guys didn't mind crashing on the same bed at night. The room is basic, with two double beds, tv, dresser, etc. It's like a standard Holiday Inn, but Disney themed. The food court is kinda like the one I had in college, and if you're going to be using the Disney Dining plan (which I HIGHLY recommend!!) there are many options available. The only thing we ever ate there was breakfast before heading out to the bus stops for the parks. One advantage to Pop Century is that the busses are dedicated for that resort, meaning you don't have to share like the "All Star" resorts do... no "milk runs" that way. The bussing system is very efficent, and since it's included with your stay at the resorts, might as well take advantage of them. When we were there in Ocotber, most nights we didn't get back till after 9 or ten at night, and the pools never seemed to close, so my boys went to the Hippy Dippy pool each night for an hour or two just to goof off before bed. It's right outside the food court, so you can sit and watch them or, since yours is 13, trust him to find his way back when he's done. We trusted ours, and they were fine.
How long are you going for? First visit there? How many of you are going? Planning on leaving DisneyWorld (to hit Busch or Islands of Adventure, etc)? Big eaters, or do most in your party eat like birds? Are you driving there or flying? (Disney's Magical Express service, free when you stay at one of their resorts, is a great transportation option to and from the airport). All these things should be considered when making your decisions. Feel free to edit and add to your question, and I'll keep an eye on it and respond if you're interested in more info from me. Have a great time when you go!!!
Nunu :)

The best hotel in Disney World is debatable. The three hotels that are in the monorail system is the Polynesian, Grand Floridian and the Contemporary. The Grand Floridian is great for adults but it kind of has a snooty atmosphere and I don't feel like it's worth the money. However, the grounds of the hotel are beautiful. The Contemporary is currently undergoing construction and it may still be when you're visiting since you're going in February. I believe they're expanding another part of the hotel to make room for time shares. Many people praise the Polynesian and it does have beautiful grounds but the hotel itself is one of the oldest on Disney property. Many people also say it feels very small and cramped. However, it is closest to the Magic Kingdom and it does have a small beach area you can go on and walk around. You can't not go in the water though. Even though it's not part of the monorail system I recommend the Wilderness Lodge. It's right near the other three hotels but it will built more recently and not added onto the monorail. The Wildnerness Lodge has wonderful restaurant, a warm atmosphere and it's newer so that's nice. The also have a great pool area and a real working gyser. If you stay there you can take a boat to and from the Magic Kingdom but you have to take buses to and from the other parks. Have a great trip!

There are a couple of different categories of Disney resort. I have stayed at a couple in each level, so here are my favorites:
Value resorts - All-Star Movies It is totally geared towards the kids. Food court is pretty good, pool is HUGE. Rooms are small, but that really didn't bother us. Tons of kids and families running around. If you can handle all of the little kids, not a bad option.
Moderate Resorts - Caribbean Beach resort - Rooms are good size. Has a restaurant along with the food court. Pool is huge. Of the resorts, I thought that I got the most for my money here.
Deluxe - Polynessian village - Hands down the best resort on the grounds in my opinion. Not as geared towards the kids, but does host a character breakfast. Most beautiful of the resorts that I have stayed at. Biggest drawback, WAY expensive.
Runner up - Saratoga Springs - I am staying here in April with my family. I have toured it, and it is beautiful. I know a few people who have stayed here and they loved it. Looking forward to going.
Hope this helps. Whatever you decide to do, stay on the grounds. People staying at one of the resorts on the grounds are treated to the extra perks that Disney offers, (like letting resort guests into the parks no matter what, even if the park is closet due to crowds), and their customer service is second to none. No matter which resort you choose, you can't really go wrong. Have a great time!!!!!!!!!

We just came back from Disney World - we stayed at the All Sports Hotel and loved it. It was very inexpensive ($64/night) to be staying inside the parks. And like someone else said - the perks are great - the hotel is so clean, everyone is so helpful and friendly. They have a food court that's open all day (I think it closes at midnight). It's very kid friendly (not sure if you have kids - if not, you might want to try a different hotel). They have shuttle buses about every 10-15 minutes to take you to whatever park you are going to. We stayed there last year also. The rooms are a little small, not sure how much time you plan on spending in your room, but I really have no complaints about it.

In my opinion, Disney's Polynesian Resort is the best. Disney's Polynesian Resort has the highest Guest return rate of all the Resorts at Walt Disney World. It was also one of the first Resorts to open with the Magic Kingdom on October 1, 1971. The other Resort to open that day was Disney's Contemporary Resort. But while it's the best Resort on property, of course, it's also one of the most expensive. It's the most gorgeous Resort, though, with the most beautiful rooms and the best views on property. It's home to the fantastic Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show (Polynesian Luau) and one of my most favorite restaurants, the Kona Cafe. The volcano pool is awesome and nearby is the beach with hammocks and chairs. Across the Seven Seas Lagoon is the most wonderful view - Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa to the left, the Magic Kingdom and Cinderella Castle straight ahead, and Disney's Contemporary Resort to the right. It's the most breathtaking sight at night when everything's lit up and Wishes Nighttime Spectacular, the fireworks show at the Magic Kingdom, is taking place. I also really love this Resort because of all the transportation options. It's so easy to get around property. There are shuttles to just about anywhere, a water launch to the Magic Kingdom, the Monorail that goes to the Magic Kingdom and nearby Resorts, a walkway to the Monorail that goes to EPCOT, and another walkway that goes to Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. Disney's Polynesian Resort is just ao amazing. It's definitely the best Resort on property. But really, all of the Resorts at Walt Disney World are awesome.
Check out this website for some awesome pictures of the Resort and some more information...

It's kind of funny. A lot of people assume Disney's Grand Floridian Resort is the best just because it's the Flagship Resort and it's big and white. However, even the majority of Cast Members at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort admit that Disney's Polynesian Resort is the best. I mean, it's obvious. It has the highest Guest return rate.
Hope I could help!

I personally love the Grand Floridian Resort, and the Boardwalk Villas. Grand Floridian because of the theme, restaurants, and concierge service, the same for Boardwalk except for the Boardwalk which gets a bit loud at some point. But those resorts are a bit more pricey, and if you want to go the distance and pay, by all means do so. Anywho, I'll break the resorts down for you.
Value Resorts: Amenities at value-priced resorts include food courts, pizza delivery, luggage service (hourly), swimming pools, bus transportation. The resorts are the All-Star Movies, All-Star Music, All-Star Sports, and Pop Century.
Moderate Resorts: Amenities at moderate-priced resorts include full-service restaurants, food courts, room service (limited), luggage service, swimming pools with a slide and hot tub, on-site recreation, bus or boat transportation. The resorts are the Caribbean Beach, Coronado Springs, Port Orleans Riverside and Port Orleans French Quarter.
Deluxe Resorts: Amenities include full-service restaurants, room service, luggage service, valet parking, swimming pools, beach access, on-site recreation, on-site childcare, monorail, boat or bus transportation. The resorts are the Animal Kingdom Lodge, BoardWalk Inn, Contemporary, Grand Floridian, Polynesian, Wilderness Lodge, Yacht Club and Beach Club, and the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin.
Or you can stay at a Disney Vacation Club Resort, which need to be booked ahead of time(earlier than regular booking) to get a villa of your choice. The villas options are studios, one bedrooms, two bedrooms, or up to three. The three bedroom ones are the Boardwalk Villas, Saratoga Springs, and Old Key West Resort. The resorts called Disney's Vero beach Resort(in vero beach), and the Hilton Head Island Resort(Hilton Head, South Carolina). The following villa resorts are located in Disney:
Old Key West, BoardWalk Villas, Villas at Wilderness Lodge, Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa and Beach Club Villas. These resorts include full-service restaurants, kitchen facilities, pizza delivery, luggage service, swimming pools, on-site recreation, front-door parking, flexible room arrangements, bus or boat transportation. Also in each villa except for the studio, is a kitchen, living rooms, balcony, and bedroom doors for privacy or whatever your use calls for.
I hope I was able to help, and I hope you love your hotel of choice.

In the Magic Kingdom area, the Polynesian is beautiful. In Epcot we like the Yacht and Beach Club. Both resorts have great pools and are very convenient.

I would have to say The Grand Floridian or The Wilderness Lodge...very opposite in decor, but both equally phenomenal! You won't be sorry!

It depends on your budget. If you can afford it, stay at the Boardwalk. The Port Orleans Riverside is very nice for a moderate resort.
