It probably opens onto another place in the wall of the universe.
Think of it as a small room, where you can go through the wall, only to re-enter from the wall behind you. If the room were small enough, you could reach through the wall in front and tap yourself on the shoulder from behind.

Actually, not many people know this, but there IS an edge of the universe. Not like a wall, but just nothing (mabey heaven though.) The universe is actually expanding at about 3 trillion light years a second (or minute, i think it might be minute) I never knew that before until my science teacher told me.
