does anyone know how you get on world 4. My 8 year old has done the other levels but does not know how to get on world4.

You need to defeat the boss at the end of world 2 as the very small mario and the same on world 5 to unlock world 7.
Also if you dont know to play a luigi then on the title screen where you choose file 1, file 2 etc you push the top R and L buttons plus the A button and it will change from mario

If you are talking about New Super Mario Brothers, then yep i have done all the levels and got the 'star complete' on all the levels and words. It takes a long time, but it is definitley achievable... just depends on how addicted you are i guess... :P
To get to world four, you do the same thing as your son did to get to world 7; simply defeat the main boos of world 5 in 'mini mario/luigi' mode (simply get thetiny blue mushroom to shrink mario).
NB: To defeat the boss (or indeed any enemy) you need to use the ground pound. I'm guessing your son knows what this is, but for the benefit of others reading, i'll post it anyway! :)
***When jumping, simply hold the 'down' button on the joypad down, and mario will 'sit' as he goes back to the ground.***

World Four is a kind of jungle landscape that is mainly infested with bee/spider things that drop down from the sky on strings. To get to some of the higher places, jump on them as they come down and press 'a' as you do- it will propel you higer up, enabling you to reach some previously unreachable areas.
