i just bought a laptop and it has wireless internet.....the people from best buy are comin to install a router in my home....i kinda understand that part.....what im wondering is when the router installation is complete will i be able to access the internet immediately or how does this work??? i have dsl internet thru my phone company on my home computer....do i have to go thru them in some way to set this up or what??? and also how do i plug my laptop into my dsl connection at home to use it like taht? also will i be able to use the wireless internet like at my school before the best buy people set it up or no??? please help!!! and please keep in mind im not very computer literate!! lol!
i would ask the best buy guy these questions when he comes to install but i will not be home.....

you should be able to pick up your router's signal with your laptop wireless network card. after you set up your router through the home computer, you will have the option of giving your home network a password so others can't steal your internet signal. this should be accessed through your user guide for the router, but it usually goes through an internet browser to access the router menu. something looking like "192.23.1.1" or some other combination of numbers. as for the school, you will have to search for the network at first using the laptop control panel (explain how to after this) and you should be able to access it just by searching and setting it up. the setup of both networks (home and school) goes through the "control panel" (start menu->settings->control panel) and "network and internet connections". if you have the wireless option, you can double-click on this icon, and windows should be fairly straight forward in setting up the network from there. hope this helps!

They will install the router to your DSL modem. Your laptop has a wireless adapter so when they are done you will be able to turn your laptop on and connect to the internet.
If you want to use your DSL before they come to install the wireless router you need to attach either the ethernet cable or the usb cable that came with your DSL modem directly to the computer. If you have problems with that call your ISP and they can walk you through it.

Think of it as a cellphone for your laptop instead of a phoneline or cable...
