The 1 series is rear wheel drive.
Lots of people saying that all BMWs are rear wheel drive. NOT TRUE! There are some 4 wheel drive cars around (Most common being the X5) and if you count the Mini (as most people do), then they also make front wheel drive.

Think again( type error) front wheel drive for the 1 series BMW while the rest of the line up has rear wheel drive. Except the MINI. I think the BMW 1 will be less cost than Audi A3.

The BMW 1 series, like ALL BMW's in production, are rear wheel drive (RWD). This is in-line with BMW's production philosophy of building the "Ultimate Driving Machine" in that, all vehicle are perfectly balanced to 50/50 weight distribution. The use of RWD design helps to achive the 50/50 balance. Furthermore, the separation of steering and thrust movements optimize the control of vehicle. That is why all BMW (note, albeit Mini is own by BMW, it is nevertheless NOT a BMW) badged vehicles are RWD
