If you can start and log onto your computer in safe mode (with networking support), you have a fighting chance. (See below for instructions)
If not, you need a pro. Your best bet for a cheap fix is probably Geek Squad (www.geeksquad.com) or some similar company. If you don't mind paying a bit more for better service, find a local company that specializes in computer consulting for businesses. You'll probably pay about $350, but you should get fixed up right - with some spyware-blocking software to prevent future infestations.
Ok, boot up your computer, and hot the F8 key during the early part of the boot process. Choose Safe Mode with Network Support. If you can start and log in, download and install Spybot (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/) Adaware (www.lavasoft.com) and Microsoft Defender (www.microsoft.com/defender). Those are all free, but sadly, even those may not be enough. If you still have spyware infecting your PC, buy a copy of Spy Sweeper (www.webroot.com). Install and run full scans with all of those products, and your spyware problems may (and I stress may) be solved.
Even those programs may not be enough to remove everything. Some of those spyware programs are darned difficult to remove. If that is the case, then try a pro.
Best of luck to you.
Oh, and by the way - removing the battery on your motherboard will not help even a little bit in this situation. All that does is to reset all of the settings in your computer's BIOS to their defaults. Sorry.

Sometimes when you have too much on your computer, it gets too bogged down to even stay turned on. One way to solve that is by opening the BIOS as you computer turns on. To access that, you must turn your computer off and when you turn it on again, when the screen pops up that displays the brand of your computer, the bottom of the screen will display something like "press F9 to interrupt startup." Do that and the BIOS screen will pop up. There will be options, go through the options with either the arrow keys or pressing the corresponding number key. If you want to format the hard drive, there should be options to format your hard drive. If you do that, you will have to reinstall the OS, so you either need to buy Vista or use the Restore disk that came with your computer. If you lost the Restore disk, do not format your hard drive, unless you are willing to pay for the new OS. Vista is pretty expensive. If your computer will not stay logged on, I do not know how to get rid of the adware or whatever else is on your computer. If your computer won't log on you wouldn't be able to install new software to remove the adware.

First try booting into safe mode (my computer doesn't give me instructions on this during bootup, but normally you press F5 or F8 to enter Safe Mode at the time when the screen says "press F2 to enter Setup" or something similar to that.) You can go into Safe Mode and perform a disk scan, defragment, dump temporary files (which often house virus files and adware files). You can even choose to boot to DOS and type "Format C: " to completely reformat the hard drive (if you have it partitioned into multiple drives, I'm not sure of this process but you can always re-partition using fdisk after reformat.) You may be able to use Control Panel's "Add or Remove Programs" to scour the adware that can be taken out that way. That's about all I can think of at the moment! I hope it helps!

I don't think adware is you're problem, you may have some corrupted file or files, if you can't get it started you may need to wipe the hard drive and start over, I prefer this over just formating because formating sometimes leaves the problem intact and you go through all the effort to reinstall the OS and you find out you still have the problem. If that's the case go to another computer and go to one of the download sites and download a disk wiper such as "killdisk" or something similar, this allows you to return your disk to an as new condition and then you'll need to install the OS just like you were installing on a new drive. Of course if the hard drive itself is bad there's nothing that can help that.

I'm assuming you're using someone else's computer right now.
I had that problem once, and my son, over the phone, had me go into safe mode. Scared the kahoots out of me to do that! It eventually worked out, but I don't ever want to do that again. I've learned more since then, but that was very scary.
If you have lots of data on your computer that you don't want to lose, please just invest the money to call Geek Squad. It will be worth it.
If you don't have stuff so important and you don't mind risking losing everything, then try some of the things mentioned by others.
I'm not trying to scare you, but I'm just hoping you're really think about all the possibilities before you take any action that you might regret. Please, just think about it really hard before you act.
Good luck!
Oh, if you are ever able to get "into" your computer, some programs won't let you delete them, however, some anti-virus programs will allow you to quarantine those programs that refuse to be deleted. That works!

well, if you can't access your computer by logging on you could try the following:
- download the 911 rescue CD http://www.911cd.net/ and burn it to CD
- boot from the CD. This will allow you to rescue your personal data such as documents, favorites and mail (typically you would save them to a USB stick or in case of large amounts of data over the network to a different PC)
- reboot, insert your original windows CD, and then completely reinstall windows
Normally I would suggest less drastic measures but if you say you can't even log on it is probably so filled with viruses, adware and trojans that you would never be able to trust your PC again.
Better to start from scratch.

Sounds more like a virus to me. You should be able to start up in safe mode. When you first turn your computer on there are instructions that will ask you to start in safe mode, but you gotta be quick. It's usually the control key or something like that.
Once you get into safe mode you should be able to figure out what the problem is and fix it. You may have to do a complete restore, which will loose your files. So be careful about what you do, but don't be afraid. Just don't do anything you are not sure of.
You could ask one of your computer friends to help, as this is a problem I never had. Lucky me, eh?

get new comp., join aol, download security suite, FREE. Or tap f8 repeatedly as comp. starts. Safe mode will let you hit comp. with hammer or maybe clear adware & spyware. RUN: type ms.config, then start up, selective start, uncheck unneccesary stuff. good luck
