I feel like I must be missing something; but I haven't seen anything in the news that relates to this.

They've been that way longer than that -- since December 26, to be exact. That is when President Ford died, and the flag flies a half-mast for thirty days afterward.

I am glad that you asked this question, because I was wondering the same thing. They were at half-staff here in Pennsylvania, too. I was confused.

They are still that way for Ex-president Gerald Ford. I think it is rather ridiculous myself, he died weeks ago.
