I have a bottle of 800mg ibuprofin that was prescribed to me quite a while ago. It expired 6/05. Is it still ok to take, or should I flush it? Thanks and have a great day!!

Flush it. Although some people would say that drugs never truly 'expire', there's a reason why they have to put that on the bottle. Although it may still hold some of the pain relief, it won't pack the punch that it did previous to the expiration date. =)

I've been told that it's good for 2 years after the expiration date. I also understand that the reason why expiration dates are on the drugs now these days is so drug companies can make more money. Also, I understand that the drug companies won't insure that the medicine will work as intended after the expiration date. In the old days......there were no expiration dates on drugs. I've also heard that some companies buy back the expired drugs, then resell them in a different container to third world countries. I don't know if any of this is true.....so you'll have to use your own judgement on this......best of luck to you.

Flush it. It won't hurt you to take it but I'm guessing that it won't work either. Most drug expiration dates are to alert the stores when to take them off the shelf and don't have anything to do with the drug going bad. You said it expired in June of 2005? I wouldn't waste time taking a pill that old. Flush them and purchase some new ones.

Good luck! :)

Aspirin does not expire. They label it as such for their own purposes. It is ok to take if needed, but it may have lost a bit of potency.

when things become expired it means it doesn't have the strength like it should and becomes less effective but it can't hurt you.
