When you call a 1980 movies old, then I don't know how you call the ones that I call old. Antiques? City of the Living dead was quite a good solution. But I tell you: dig deaper, there are older movies that are creepier than this ones and they are real cult. I prefer the old Murnau, Lang and Browning ones. They even don't need to be horror, but they are brilliantly made. I give you my favorites and you can get them and watch them. I hope you do enjoy them: Well, the best of Murnau is Sunrise (1922). It's no horror. His most famous might be Noferatu, Synphonie des Grauens (1921/22) He adopeted Bram Stokers Dracula to his play, changing names for not paying the royalties. The actor Max Schreck who's is Dracula, is really scary only by his body stature (His name means maximum = Max, fear = Schreck).Another great Murnau film is Faust, adopting the masterpiece of Goethe (changing it so much, that you cannot recognize it).
Best of Lang: Dr. Mabuse (the three films), Metropolis, M, eine Stadt sucht seinen Mörder (should be: M, a city in research of the murderer)
Best of Browning: Freaks, Dracula
I hope you enjoy. To understand nowadays and 80s horror movies, you must know the early ones. Of corse they are never as realistic as the ones today, but they creep you off psycologically (oh, watch Hitchcock, by the way)

Am a horror movie fan, and although I have never heard of one of the movies (second one listed), the movies that were produced by Hammer Studios were kind of over-done/over-acted but still some classic horror films, nonetheless. Am especially fond of the Hammer films featuring Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee...both play creepyscary characters very very well!

I don't know what movies in particular you are referring to and I am not going to click on your links, but I will try and answer. Some movies were made with something so unique,or a message was conveyed so powerfully,or a character was created that you never forgot, or a story was told that made you think. When you see a film like that, it stays with you forever.
Make new classics. Attend the limited releases that come around. See "art-house"films. Check out Foreign films. Move beyond Blockbuster and blockbusters.

The old Hammer horror movies were so campy and schlocky that they're funny.
I suspect that the second movie falls into that same genre.
