The story of Titanic was true....not the story of Jack and Rose or the necklace. It's called a plot...to make the movie more interesting and heartbreaking.

They didn't use the real Rose because Jack and Rose are fictionial characters created by James Cameron.

Here is the answer about the diamond:

What ever became of the Coeur de la Mer (the Heart of the Ocean) diamond?

The diamond was a fictional creation used to give Brock Lovett and the other treasure hunters a reason to hear Rose's story.

On March 22, 1998 a real version, created by Asprey London was auctioned off for $2.2 million to an unidentified buyer at a charity ball for Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund and Southern California's Aid for AIDS. It has a 170-carat sapphire set in platinum, with 65 30-carat diamonds. The new necklace was loaned to Celine Dion, who wore it during her performance of the movie's theme song at the Academy Awards in 1998.

I have always thought that she was the "real" rose too. And her kids as well. But because its a movie, they always want to protect the true story characters. Maybe she didn't want to go on the big screen? I still beleive it was her.

Rose was a fictional character. She never existed in real life.

To make it more realistic. Kate Winslet in aging makeup would have looked ridiculous. Plus, the lady who played the older Rose was an award winning actress.

She wanted too much money.
She only speaks in Ebonics.
She parties way too much...
...(bad drug problem, very sad).
