Hi my boyfriend named our baby Marley after 'Bob Marley' and now im pregnant again he has suggested another name for a boy Kartel after 'Vybz Kartel' a jamaican dancehall artist my dp is black caribbean. I like the name Kartel just do you think its strange to name all our children in this way?

Not at all. It really dosnt matter how u decide on a name for a baby, just as long as ur happy with it.

I think that's a great way to come up with names, and I love the name Marley. I'm not sure how Kartel is pronounced, but the first thing I think of when I hear it is cartel, as in drug cartel. If it's pronounced differently than cartel, then go for it. If it's the same, you might want to think of another artist you like, since the word cartel has bad associations for many people and might cause some to unfairly judge your child.

No I think that's fine plus the your new arrival may feel left out if he doesn't have a cool like Marley's!! I work with kids and there are some ridiculous ones out there, but I like Kartel.

Why would you care what other people think? Your children's names are your business. For the record Marley's a great name very original he will stand out in a crowd that's for sure & Kartel is also very original.
I have named my son Luis after a famous footballer Luis Figo & also because I met my wife in Spain she is Scottish & Lewis spelt like that is also a Scottish name. So I have also named my son in a similar way to you. I would like to wish both your Children a great life & lots of happiness. You name them what feels right for you & your partner good luck.

I don't think its strange. People hear names all over the place. I actually heard a name i want to ask my husband about off yahoo answers. :-) Kartel isnt a bad name, its different, but not bad. If you guys both like it, go for it. Doesn't matter where you find the name. I try to avoid names with dark or horrible meanings, but other then that, if i hear one somewhere doesn't matter to me where. Go for it! :-)

I love my name there is only 3 girls in a school of 1,500 girls with my name, Michaela and I love it my friends called Sapphire the only one in the school and my other friends name is Gervaise which I think is a lovely name as is Saffs and she is the only girl I know with that name ever. So I would go with Kartel I think that is one gorgeous name as is Marley, they are beautiful names for beautiful children. Hope it works out!!!

First, I'm glad you chose Kartel instead of 'Vybz'! And no, I don't think it's strange. A lot of people do that, especially if it has meaning to you, and those names are nowhere near as weird as they possibly could be!

They are a bit different, but not SO different that they're weird. I think the name Kartel is cute, but maybe spell it with a C like Cartel (haha, that's one of my favorite bands.) Or just go with something similar like Karter or Carter.
