I'm not asking how to write a song. I have written about 60 songs on my own and I write w/other people. I even posted some songs that I have written on a guitar tab website. I play guitar too and I put music to my songs. I just mentioned 'songwriter's' because I was just wondering what you write about for some new ideas.

I already know how to write songs. I have been writing songs for 4 years...

Any questions about songwriters always catch my eye because I have been writing songs since....about seven years ago, and before that I would make up little songs for everything. To help me remember stuff for a test, anything. (I had the three branches of government put to Green Day's "On my Own" once!) When I write, the most important thing to me is to not write FOR anything. Don't write JUST country-type songs, or don't write JUST songs that rhyme, just write whatever comes to mind. Sometimes I write something and think that it totally sucks, so I'll put it away for a month or two and then pull it back out and think, "Why didn't I finish this? It's GOLD!" I am inspired by so many things; School, relationships (both mine and other people's that I observe), and even sometimes just how my day went. And sometimes inspiration for a song just pops out of nowhere. (This rocks, unless it happens when I'm trying to go to sleep.....at like 3 am or something....=) ). Another important thing that could very possibly tie with no genre-writing for first place is to not force yourself to write. It is pointless. If you aren't enthusiastic and inspired by what you are trying to write, then it is going to be crud, and you won't ever really like it. (NOTE: This is not always true: Once I wrote a verse and a half and it was forced and I loved it; I expanded on it later.). The only real problem that I face when trying to write is WRITER'S FREAKIN' BLOCK! My friend once told me to go sit in the park and eat ice cream whenever I couldn't think of anything to write about. I like to listen to some of my favorite bands and just lay on my bed with my eyes closed trying to think about nothing. (My logic behind this is: If you try to think about nothing, then thinking about everything will ALWAYS get in the way. Boom. Instant inspiration.) Whatever inspires you, and no matter what you write about, I wish you the best of luck with your songwriting endeavors and that all your writer's blocks become un-blocked.
=)

I write about everything. I like imaginative things, like stuff thats not real. I write about love and observations too. Personally, I think vocal melodies are more important than the words, it makes it fun to listen to. Some bands I listen to have some lyrics that aren't too great, but the way they sing it makes up for it.

You've got the WORST taste in music and would have the WORST taste in entertainment if you liked talentless reality shows! Listen to good music like ICP!
