How do you care for pinky mice? My boyfriend got 3 of them to feed to his snake 2 days ago. And decided to keep one. It's an older pinky mouse, it has the white hair and tail already, but it's eyes are still closed. I tried feeding it some imitation kitten milk with and eye dropper... But am i doing all of this right? What else should I be doing?

It won't be easy, you might not succeed, but I sure commend you for wanting to give it a try. My only experience is when I had a single female rat pup that was rejected by her mother due to a difficult birth. Bingo only lived 3 days. Pretty sad seeing as I'm an authority in the care of pet rats.

On the bright side, the older the mouse, the more success you will have. Mice open their eyes at around 2 weeks of age, and when they do you can start them on solid food like baby pablum, which will cut down on how many times you have to bottle feed. And you are definitely on the right track.

Just a guesstimate as to your mouse's age, and mice mature just like rats do, the hair starts to come in at 7 days old and is fully in by 10 days old.

Is it possible for you to get an adult female mouse from the store and she can help you raise the baby in ways that you cannot provide for it, like warmth, grooming, the familiar smell of another mouse???????

I had a Small Boa for a while and getting pinky mice and fuzzes was a pain. My snake only needed to be feed once a week and Boa's like to be feed on schedule. I would have to go from pet store to pet store sometimes to find them, because they would be sold out. I have had them die on a 20 min. drive home. They usually only last a few hours maybe a day tops. I never seen how long they last once they were in the tank they were pretty much gone.

Here are some links you can check out.

I'm telling you though that if you have been keeping this little guy alive for a week so far, you are definitely doing something right. And keep doing it with some tips from these links. It's not common for pinkies to live much longer then a couple of days with hand feeding. Another week and it's eyes will be open.

It's impossible to raise a baby mouse who still haves its eyes closed. It needs its mother. Sorry but he is going to die.

You should buy an adult mouse instead.

Sorry.
