You don't need to *buy* a pet rock when they are easily wild-caught. They are quite tame right from the start and they are very easy-keepers.
I have gone to out-of-town gravel pits where the most beautiful and tempermentally stable rocks hang out, quietly munching on sand and drinking rain water. If this is all they need to survive in the wild, imagine how easy they would be to keep as pets.
If you want to rescue a pet rock, why not try the gravel yards in cities where some pet rocks meet horrible ends if they are not adopted.
The pet rocks that I have so far have really awesome personalities. Yep, they really crack me up.

My neighbours gave me a pet rock, it was a gift after I cut down thier rose bush! The only thing was they were too shy to hand me it and threw it through the window, but it was a lovely gesture just the same!

Make your own by either finding a good rock or buying one at a craft store.Then, get some supplies at the store like feathers and goggle eyes.Making your own will give it a touch of you.

go to a rock and mineral convention, if you don't want to catch one in the wilds. Remember after you purchase a Pet Rock make sure to take it to bed with you at night, they like to snuggle and adjust to your vibrations.

GO out side and look fro the perfect rock , then you dont even need to pay for it. ( If you do this you might want to take it for its radies shot and remember it is wild!!!!EEEEK!)

I would try e-bay or any other auction site.
If you don't find one there, I bet I could "dig" one up for you. It won't have a box or anything like that.... :-)
