It must have been the AIRLINES fault the the little tyke threw a major tissy-fit...of course it's ALWAYS someone else's fault(that's why we have more lawyers in California that the rest of the world combined).

Not going to fly anymore with us, sir? Good riddence to you, and spend that refund on a reality check.

First of all if you do not have children, it is impossible to know what really was happening. The child was probably scarred and had no idea what was going on. It is not the parents fault that the flight was already delayed. Did you think of that? Children if aloud to be consoled and helped will calm down. And the situation was probably made worse by everyone putting their to cents in in the first place. It is nice of the airline to offer the help that they did, but it could have created an even worse problem, the child could have been even worse the next day because she got her way the day before. If people would have aloud the parents to help the child rather than telling them how to deal with the child, then they would have probably been able to better deal with the situation. I would have been spitting nails, because my child has special needs and crys in new situations anyway, it is discriminating any way you look at it, I don't care what they offered them.

i have flown with cranky kids on the flight and now i have a child of my own and have flown with her being cranky...it's up to the parents to be able to control their children...if the parent said she had an earache from flying down did they bother to take her to a doc and maybe get some antibiotics so it may have cleared up by the time they flew...every parent i know always mentions benadryl while flying..maybe a small dose would have been appropriate...its sad that these parent let their 3 y/o control them like she obviously has...and for the parents and others to say the airline was not very sympathetic to them, well too bad, next time drive to your destination, the airline can not and should not allow a 3 y/o to hold an entire plane on the ground

Absolutely. Parenting is at an all time low. There is absolutely no discipline anymore.

Parents are spoiling their kids so much teaching them that the world revolves around them. Kids think they can do what they want and parents dont' discipline them at all. If you can't control a 3 year old, God help society when that kid gets to be a teen.

Making people have to be late for flights, while holding up connecting flights because 2 crappy parents cant' even discipline a 3 year old is unacceptable.

I have friends that have a 4 year old girl and this kid is out of control around her parents. She goes to bed around 11 pm and does whatever she pleases.

At her grandma's house the grandparents are disciplined, she takes naps, and goes to bed @ 8:30 pm every night. She seems happier and is a joy to be around. Kids need discipline and are better for it.

What a self absorbed society we've become if we think this is acceptable. Kick them off of the plane and teach them that if they can't discipline their kid, it's not acceptable for others to have to pay for it.

It is incredibly generous of the airline to refund their tickets and offer them free roundtrip tickets anywhere the airline goes. I'm glad the airline is defending their decision. The parents are complianing that they didn't have time to console their child? How about the other 112 people on board didn't have time for them to console the little brat. Learn to control your children and you won't have this problem in the future.

I saw them on GMA this morning , her father said she'd had an ear ache after some surgery and she was feeling pain. The mother had no clue, you can read into that any thing you want.

I've flown with kids, I'd like to have thrown out the window at 35,000 feet and their parents with them.

Bring candy for the ascent and descent, bring a soother if it 'll help. Take your screeching kid onto your lap and talk to her/him quietly til he/she soothes down, they usually do. And worse comes to worse buy everyone on the plane drinks at your expense til they all fall asleep even if your kid doesn't.

People are such idiots. There are reasons airlines have rules and there are reasons the FAA has rules. Those parents deserved nothing. Control your kid don't spoil them. Kids are great but they are kids. You as a parent should be the adult.
I think that was really nice for the airline to refund the money and tolerate such idiots.

Just a note on that Benadryl thing - it has the reverse effect on 10% of children..., which I didn't find out until we were on a second leg of an overseas flight with one of my toddler twins. ; ( I spent a good bit of time in the bathroom with her hollering, pleading and frazzled. My option was to keep the people seated around us heavily sedated with vodka & bourbon, which I happily offered to pay for & retrieve if the attendants weren't coming quickly enough!

It's not the parents it's the Government. They wont let us bust our kids @sses like my mom did when i screwed up. They call it child abuse. How ever my daughter was acting up one time and a sherrif told me that if i think they need a wipping to call him and he whould come out and make sure that i do it with in the law so every one that reads this you do have the right to wip your kids as long as you dont go over board so if your kids need their @ss busted just dont go over board, you do have the right to wip them , spare the rod spoil the child.

Children under 16 shouldn't be allowed to fly. Leave them at home or mail them or something.

Hint for parents, when you are out in a public place, like an airport or airplane, you are the only one who thinks your kid is cute, The rest of us think they are annoying and filthy.
