As long as the bills are paid, there is food in the house, and she makes her own money, what gives the man a right to "lay down the law"? She is her own person, she is not a child, she is not a possession, she is a human being who likes to buy things.
If she overspends constantly and doesn't take care of other financial matters first, maybe she needs some counseling for money management or to find out why she feels spending is a substitute for self-esteem. But to demean a woman by "laying down the law" just shows a mans prejudices and lack of understanding. Why does he feel the need to "control" his wife's actions? Does it make him feel like more of a man and superior?

uh...my husband lays down no law. If we can't afford to spend something, I simply don't spend it, If I overspend accidentally....well there's still no "law" to lay down, this is a partnership, not a dictatorship. He works, I stay home with the kids, and we work out finances TOGETHER. We are each doing our part in contributing to our household, so why should I not have a say?

My husband never does that. I am not a child and can spend my own money on how I see fit. He can too. That's part of being married (50/50) and not being treated as a little kid by your spouse.

I usually discuss with my husband before I go out and spend money. He has enver had to yell at me about spendind to much, because I am the one that pays the bills and shops and works the check book and he is usually the one who spends to much!

How often does my husband do WHAT??? I married an adult who married an adult. Neither of us have to "lay down the law" except to our children. We're both reasonable and responsible individuals. In 17 years of marriage I don't believe either of us have "laid down any laws". I think I can safely say that if he tried that it wouldn't go over to well.

My boyfriend never "laid down the law" because I'm self sufficient and pay for things out of my own finances. I budget and plan my money. I have bills to pay, rent to pay, a dog to take care of, so I'm all tied up on knowing how to budget and plan.

I don't go out and spent money on stupid things. I have a dog that I take care of and even with her I have money budgeted.

I'm an adult and if I want to go out then I can go out. My mother doesn't go around telling me what to do, or allocating my things then he shouldn't be doing it.

I am young, independent and I'm with him because I love being with him, we take care of each other, and we are there for each other.

If I have to have a boyfriend control me and determine when I can go out or allocating the money that is mines, then he's not a male I would date or want to be with.

I do not control allocate how he spends his money, I don't allocate if he can or cannot go out with his friends.
