Magnesium ribbon - Oh what fun it is to burn! Put a load of it on your "pals" car hood, light it - and run!

It'll burn all the way down into the block!

magnesium is metal, it has a valency of 2 so when it racts it gives up two electrons. it is very reactive it reacts slowly with air and so it have to be stored under oil,it also reacts slowly with water forming magnesium hydroxide and hydrogen gas will evelve the same when it reacts with acid hydrogen gas will eveolve

Mg reacts with oxygen to form a white powder, MgO.
This can occur slowly or with a white hot flame
Mg will combine with 1 of anything in column6/16
Mg will combine with 2 of anything in column7/17
Mg will combine with N, Mg3N2
