Star trails in the northern hemisphere all describe a circular pattern around the North Star, which is a fixed point in the center of the trails. If you want an evidence not needing to look at the stars themselves, the Foucault pendulum is a way of verify the rotation of Earth. The fixed starts represents the spatial reference.
If you mount a pendulum in the North pole, it rotates 360 degrees in 24 hours.
