It goes up, forward and over-that was half flush- the sink goes in a clockwise direction. I checked the sink thingy with my other sinks and both of them were anti-clockwise. By the way the Coriolis effect isn't always true.
As for the people who said we don't have flushing toilets put your head in and see.

this is a theory which would only work in perfect laboratory conditions.

Sinks, bowls etc are not perfectly circular so the water can spiral either way. I was interested in this, too.

South or north of the equator, the water spirals in an unpredictable manner.

Do Australians have flushing toilets? I thought they were still using the "long drop" system of sanitation.

Even if they do have flushing toilets I wouldn't imagine they would hang around watching them flush in case they get bitten on the a**e by a redback!

Sounds like you're thinking about the Coriolis effect, which, sadly, does NOT work on small things like toilet bowls or kitchen sinks, it only works on large things like hurricanes. Here's a website which explains it in gory detail:

Funny funny, ha ha!! 1st, our farmers in the bush do not use THE LONG DROP as referred to!! NO, they use a piece of barbed wire to pull it out!! no down under it is clockwise for us too! but since you lot stands on your heads to us it's ANTICLOCKWISE for your benefit!!!
