sounds like the hard drive is dying, hope not but my old pc started making a loud noice, then the hard drive died.Rather than throw it,i brought a good hard drive and fitted it myself,a lot cheaper than the shops, and a lot easier than you might think,i,d never seen inside a pc before, and was quite surprised how easy this was, good luck.

If the noise is high pitched, it may be the hard disk drive starting to fail. If it is lower in pitch, likely a cooling fan. With many PCs running several fans these days, I'm guessing this to be the more likely. If there where electricty problems sufficient to damage a hard disk, it would probably have damaged the entire system. You can test for the fan by turning on the computer and sticking a pencil in the fan. (Only put it in far enough to stop it from spinning.) If the noise goes away when you block the fan blades, then it's obviously the fan and is easily replaced. There are probably multiple fans in your system. One in the power supply at the back of the computer, one or more extra fans in the computer case and one or more on the motherboard cooling those components. Oh, and maybe one for graphics if you have a fast video card in an expansion rather than on the motherboard. If you need to go so far as to check those internal fans don't stop them for more than a second or two. If you have a really fast CPU or graphics card, those processors generate so much heat that it doesn't take very long to be damaged if not sufficiently cooled. I've seen a processor without the cooling unit attached die in 15 seconds!. Of course, yours will have the heatsink and fan attached, so it won't happen to you. But be careful anyway.

most likely one of the fans. You can get replacement ones cheaply. The problem ones are on the processor, as you have to be very careful not to damage it when it's changed. Or if it's the power supply fan, you need to note where all the leads go when you get a new supply.
If it's not the fan then it will be the hard drive. It's hard to be sure without hearing it. Hard drives can get a bit noisy as the bearings get old.

Sounds like the cooling fan is falling apart, cheap to repair.

Probably one of the cooling fans. If they fail it will overheat and damage the computer

Check the fans...it's usually that. A new fan costs less than $10 and you can install it yourself

coulb be one of your cooling fans getting ready to go out. if it stops making noise then make sure to check if the fan is still running if not your cpu could overheat.

Make sure none of your cables are touching any of your fans.

my boyfriend says you might have a screw loose in the computer, or your hard drive could be knackered.
