when you pay for 8 meg broadband, 90% of the time you dont actually get 8meg broadband......

you get UP TO 8 meg broadband. your actual speed depends on a few things

- your distance from the local exchange
- the route your line takes to the exchange
- your actual line to the exchange

the chances are a few people in your area will be getting higher speeds than you are and people will probably getting slower speeds than you. to be honest there isnt a lot you can do to improve your speeds if that is the case.

the closer you are to the exchange and the better quality of your line - the higher speed you will get.

Yes, but unlikely. Is it possible that you are oinly paying for the 1MB speed.

Test your speed (Search the Web) and check your contract.

Otherwise it may just be the distance from the exchange.

To save me from wasting precious seconds of my life to click and view your question, you could made the effort to write the whole damn thing in the title, rather than just "broadband".
