I am building muself a new computer. It is going to be a cheap gameing computer (2.4 GHZ processor, 1GB of ram, and a 256 Mb video card). I see power supplys that go from 300 watts to over 500 watts. Do I realy need 550 watts of power for my computer? How would I determin which one is right for me?

You can probably make do wiht the 350-400 watt, but if you can afford a larger one, go for it. The additional power will serve you later when you add equipment.

THe system only pulls the power it needs, so getting the higher powered one won't run your electric bill up nor will it hurt your equipment.

Nope. Not for what you are running. If you have a ton of boards using every slot and 3 or 4 HD's maybe get 500 or more watts. But for what you are doing a 350w would be enough. I just replaced a power supply. This is the one I got. Free shipping, and its been working great.

Depends on the accessories and the video card if it needs that amount. I would say get the 550 watt one I don't see any problem with it

Video cards and processors suck up the electricity. Look at the demands of your processor and video card. The latest Gforce video cards in SLI require 800 watts.

Just pull it out and take it with you to Fry's. That is what I did the first time I had to replace one.

That will be determined on what you are going to run with it. :) If all you are going to put in it is what you have listed I would go with the 500w
