i know we have mp3 players now, but thats not for evryone, surely people are still buying cds in shops, anyways i wish they'd bring out the minidisc format that doesn't scratch. Thats my problem with cds they are weak; they scratch and break easily, not a problem with minidiscs. My music collection is suffering cos. of this.

well yes dougie some people do tend to forget to put them in their cases occasionally which is when they tend to scratch, i can't help but think they were designed poorly that way on puropse. I've already purchased my favourite CD twice, wouldn't be a problem with a better format.

I think they will come out with some kind of mini memory card that has mp3's or something on it. Then you could just stick it in a mp3 player or your computer or something.

My town/village/old white trash area, really has no stores of interest. I basically order albums off the internet. I don't collect vinyls either. BQ: I thought about not answering this, partially because I hate giving lists. I often go back and look at them and think "Why did I leave blank album out?" or "Why did I rank this over this?". Anyways... 1. 10 Haters - Flash Bang Grenada, it's grown on me so much. 2. W.A.R - Pharoahe Monch 3. Section 80 - Kendrick Lamar 4. Undun - The ROOTS 5. Oneirology - Cunninlynguists 6. LABOR - One Be Lo 7. Armor of God - Vakill, I actually only heard this recently. Dope. 8. Left for Dead - Input and Broken, this album is also fresh in my mind. Made a a question about it. 9. XXX - Danny Brown 10. Elmatic I guess I feel like I forgot something but I like my list.

CD and mp3 format have already been rendered obsolete by new upcoming technologies. Most of those technologies are not yet in the public domain due to the high cost of manufacture, which is abrogated by the ability to mass produce them once they become popular. Within the next 10 years, it will be hard to find equipment to play CDs, let alone the now ancient format of cassettes...

When cd's first came out many people said that's not for everyone, but now it's the norm. So I suggest you get on the mp3 wagon and ride it. Rip all those scratched cd's to your computer and sync them to an mp3 player.

everything gets replaced at some point and i am sure cd's will be replaced. remember when cd's were first introduced to the public, scratches dont harm them, the 100th time you play one will sound as good as the 1st time, no degradation of sound, etc etc.
not much help when your win98 disk explodes in your new cd rom rendering it useless.....vinyl never exploded on the platter lol

SACD. It's been out for a few years. It's equivilent to blue ray or HD-DVD for movies.
But you're not talking about sound quality, you're talking about durability, and it sounds to me like your problem is that you aren't careful with your CD's.
I can hardly see how you can blame it on the CD if you're using them as coasters and not keeping them in their cases.
