Great answers, examples would include speaking out in court when yo are not on the stand. "thats ridiculous" most judges would declare you are out of order....once if you persisted...bailiff take that person into custody conempt of court.

Another common one, a parent is ordered to pay x amount of child support. They fall behind or decide not to pay. The judge would issue a warrant for your arrest charging you w felony (much worse) contempt of court.

Dress & act/speak w respect. If you ever are under a court order to do something. Contact the court if a problem develops to avoid (maybe) being in contempt.

It means that you are not obeying the rules of the court, and/or the judge's instructions. This is a crime and is punishable by fines/jail time. In order for courts to function properly they must remain orderly, so enforcement of these "contempt of court" laws is critical.

it means that you are dis-obeying a direct order of the court and are subject to the penalties granted by law.

for example if the judge asks that a person be quiet and not talk & they continue to do so, they could be subject to a fine or time behind bars.

You are doing something the judge does not like. She/he makes all the rules for the courtroom we provide for them but they refer to as theirs.
