a good oil to use is castrol gtx magnatec, it prolongs engine life by attaching itself to working parts,so when you start your engine it doesn't need to wait til the oil pressure is up as it is already protected. a good choice for newer engines.

Make sure the oil you use has the minimum rating. Brands of oils also vary by the detergents added. Of course, the lower or no name brands are usually what is left over in the bottom of the barrel so it is like a mixture of all the barrels brokered to that vendor. To be completely honest, there are only a few vendors that function under several names.

Check the SAE rating, use the weight the car calls for. If it is an older car that is starting to use oil, you can go to a slightly thicker oil to cut down on consumption as long as it isn't to drastic. My answer would not be complete unless I say that the oil is the blood of the car, change it often...

Name brand oil of the weight recommended in your owner's manual. No one can tell you what weight as cars are different.

ALWAYS USE THE CORRECT WEIGHT THAT THE MANUFACTURER STATES!!!!!!!!! Then on top of that I would use SYNTHETIC, some manufacturers will suggest using a different weight during different times of the yr. If you dont have a owners manual then car a local dealer, they can tell you what to use.
