I live in the Northeast. I have them in the garage (near a window for light) to try to keep them from freezing. I noticed that they are turning brown even though I am watering them. I don't want to lose the investment, will they come back in the spring?

they need light . dig a shallow trench, lay the arborvitae rootballs in the trench and cover with dirt then mulch (about 8") they will hold over winter this way. as it is you are probably overwatering, AND they don't have enough light. cold doesn't usually bother them. good luck.

geezer is right but if the root balls are light or very dry make sure you water them!!
