You are talking about the social nature of Gorillas. Evolution deals with the genetic nature. While a greater amount of knowledge could lead to eventual genetic changes I don't see that happening in a confined enclosure where their every need is looked after. In order to evolve creatures need to be able to adapt and become more genetically fit as they relate to predators and such. If, however, there were no predators, over a millenia, they would probably lose the ability to survive outside of their enclosure and the energy they used for protection may very well be used for intelligence.
