I am only in 5th grade, so don't get mad at me for asking this question. Since molecules move faster and spread out when it is hotter, and we use ATOMic clocks, won't time move faster? And since the molecules move slower and contract when it is colder, shouldn't time slow down a little? Don't get mad at me for asking this preposterous question, but I was just wondering if that should, or does, happen. Please respond.

clocks can move faster or slower depending on the circumstances affecting them. but clocks are just instruments measuring time so if a clock moves faster because it is subjected to heat, it doesnt mean that time is faster. Actually time is more complicated than that. according to einstein time is relative. your time may be different from mine because time is affected by gravity and speed.

First off, this is not a "preposterous" question.

It actually is founded on some pretty good reasoning on your part. If we consider the older analog clocks in automobiles, the reasoning is even more sound - they always "lost" time in the winter and run pretty true all summer. But you must know that the actual time didn't go slower in the winter - only the antique gears and frozen lubricants in the clocks got a little lazy.
Atomic clocks, on the other hand, are not effected by normal temperature variations.

I agree it is very good that you wonder about these things.
Tell you this. Temp. only effects matter. To put it in a simple way, is to say you can in some in some way or the other touch matter.
But time is only a unit of Measure, It is not something that you can touch.
The Temp. would not affect time at all anywhere. Clocks are only tools used to measure a certain thing by. They can slow down but the thing they measure keeps on going as before and that why the are either slow, fast or on the money.
You can say the same thing about The Temp. We use a Thermometer to measure this. It is only a tool. They both are only tools used to let all of us know what or when others are seeing the same thing as we do.

No matter how brief of an existant or how statutest in size other dimenssions are part of the full undeerrstanding of reality
