No where near as bad as 51 days.

TV and the NFL
They expanded the time off to allow for more advertizing, sales promotions, media hype and stadium prep. Also, to give each team an even time to rest and recover. Especially have the AFC dominated in the 70-80's, when there was only one or two dominate AFC teams and the NFC would be so beat up after the Championship game, they looked aweful on the field.

The same thing as everyone else said...to make money. But I also think it's like that because it's the Super Bowl and because teams need more time to study their opponent and their tendencies since they're about to play in the biggest NFL game of the year.

It is to build some hype for the biggest game of the year. It is too soon to make it one week after the Conf. Championships. So ya, basically to build hype for the game.

Hype! Hype! Hype! Commercials need to be sold and dollars have to be made - not to mention more promotional product sales, etc. It also gives the networks a chance to build up the game for more viewership.

Hey, we had to wait 51 days for the BCS Championship game! Consider yourself lucky!!
I imagine since the teams were just decided there are matters of travel, advertising, special uniforms, lodging, advertising, special cereal boxes, advertising, etc..

the reason they wait for the superbowl is to let the players and and coaches recuperate. they need time to come up with strategies and to study the opposing team so that the game will be all it is hyped up to be.

The NFL will say it's to give the teams rest and time to prepare, the truth is they want time to build up the matchup and get the anticipation high so they get better ratings.

I don't know either. You can try NFL.com. It may be to build momentum and to make it a media spectacle. But I'd rather have it in a week so the teams don't lose momentum!
