Leonardo da Vinci's notebooks show some brilliant inventions on paper, but he could never actually build any of them with the crude technology of his times. Time travel could be the explanation of how he got such ideas.

There are "clues" for just about any speculation you care to make - especially if the "clues" are interpreted to support the theme of the investigation.
However, there is no verifiable or valid proof that time travelers have ever visited or even if time travel is possible.
Time travel is such an intriguing subject that, for instance, people tend to look at history and other things in the past and try and convince others that these events or accomplishments could not have been possible with that era's technology.
And when time travelers are debunked, the alien theories start popping up because they're harder to debunk.
In either event, no proverbial "smoking gun" has ever been found to prove either contention.
