The best locations in which to reside in Tacoma are those older areas out toward the sound itself. If I were finding a location in which to live so I could commute to Auburn, however, I would choose an alternative area because, in all honesty, the commute from Tacoma to Auburn will get old in a hurry despite the close proximity because of the traffic on the freeways which you would most likely use. In addition, though the city has been cleaned up, there are still a lot of inexplicable smells here and there, and the crime rate is higher there than many other places close by.
. If I were you, I would consider perhaps living in Auburn itself, which is a pretty good little city! There, you are adjacent to the freeways going in every direction, and have reasonably good shopping right there. Or there is Federal Way where I used to live, just west of Auburn. Kent is close but further north, Enumclaw or Puyallup aren't too bad, or even further into the countryside are Sumner and Bonney Lake, if you like beautiful scenery a more rural lifestyle...
I highly recommend doing a little website searching before deciding where to live and signing a contract. I would first check things out a little more!
Tacoma quite frankly isn't the best place to go. My best pal in the world lives there, and I would give my right (use your imagination) for her to move out of there tomorrow!
Geez! This is turning into a travel guide, but you get the picture, I hope. As far as living in Tacoma and commuting to Auburn? Well....you can do much better! The area in general is great, however, and I hope you enjoy life up there! I miss it every day! :-)
