I need some recommendations on what a good beginner's sewing machine would be. I don't want one of those crappy $19.99 things you see on tv. I want one that can be used to actually MAKE clothes. I have about $30-50 to spend on a machine. Where could I get a good one for this price?

My local WalMart carries White, Brother and Singer. None of those brands are "cheap, crappy" machines. I think they had a 35-stitch Singer on sale before xmas for about $75. Also check on the WalMart website, they have sales on the sewing machines and offer free shipping sometimes.

With only that much to spend your best bet will be to watch your local paper for a used one. Even a cheap crappy one from walmart will cost you $90.
