Not long. Valvoline did a test of NYC cabs, and tried it. They drove several miles before there was irreversible damage. But that was under controlled conditions.
I have worked for shops where the plug was left loose, or the wrong filter was installed, and the vehicles managed nearly 10 miles before lock-up.

It depends on how fast the oil came out. It may still be OK. All you can do is drain the remainder of the oil in the engine, put a new filter on, fill it up with new oil and start the engine. You will know pretty quick if the engine is toast. It didn't run the whole time without oil, only the last bit when the oil ran out and you may have killed the engine before the last of the oil ran out. As far as running the engine with no coolant, you didn't run it long enough without coolant to hurt it. You have an insurance claim for the accident. The engine should be part of the claim.

Well, the pistons, seals, valves etc. will still have a thin coating of oil on them just because of how oil is. The engine would run at idle for probably 5 minutes and then things would go terribly wrong. And seize would be exactly what would happen, the seals and pistons would scrape along the sides of the cylinder walls and cause permentant damage to block and pistons and eventually metal shavings and seal pieces would jam themselves between the cylinders and the walls and the engine would cease to move.

It wouldn't take you very long to find out. You can cause permanent damage to the engine on the same day that you try this little expensive experiment. Give ME the $5000.00 for a new engine and save yourself the trouble :O)

I've blown 2 engines up on purpose, and you need to heat the things up. If you idle it , it will run quite a few minutes, if you get on that throttle and start winging it, it will burn the oil off and lock quickly.

the car wont start period because the oil pan is under the crankshakft which carries oil up to the pistons and flows to the sparkplugs and makes the fire and without any oil there wont be any spark to start the car.
