I generally like horror movies and the effect they have on me is to scare me. I get goose bumps and good frights, like on a roller coaster. My poor wife has to bear the agony of me grabbing her leg, though! There were some very scary parts in a movie I just saw called Pan's Labyrinth, even though it was not technically a horror movie. And don't let anyone tell you they don't make good horror movies anymore. Rent The Descent, highly acclaimed by movie critics and thinking people everywhere.

I love horror movies and while I don't think they make people want to go out and chop people up in little pieces after watching them, unless something is already wrong with the person. I do believe they have effects on people. I also think the effect is much larger for small children, I watched the movie IT when I was a child and I to this day hate clowns. I think horror movies is alot like drinking, watch responsibly, enjoy it, don't over do it, and no underage watching aloud.

I loved every kind of horror when I was younger. Now I get pickish. I don't like anymore the splatter and the pure slaughter but are creeped out by psycoligic fear. The slaughter is just effect. The things that are going on in my head because of tiny little hints are well caculated.
Acutally, the older I get, the better I find really old films (from the 30s, 40s, 50s).

Horror movies I like - but not slasher movies. Scary movies get the blood flowing and makes you realize there are bad things out there. It is creative and makes boring, everyday life a little less so.

I really prefer the semi-gory gothic horror flicks from the 60s. They totally romanticize the gore like POTC 1 romantized zombie based pirates. They aren't really scary but they aren't bad either. The most effective horror film for me was was actually quite bloodless. It was called the Innocents.

I love horror movies but only the old school ones like Rosemary's Baby and The original Black Christmas. This crap they are putting out today is just gory visuals and not enough psychological horror where you have to use your imagination - far more scarier!

I liked the ones like Scream or more recently When a Stranger Calls, but I really really dont like the monster type ones with all the gore. I think that at least the stalker type ones are at least slightly possible, like it technically could happen so its a bit scarier than oogie boogie the grotesque man monster covered in blood who's killing people in way overly brutal ways.
