i've got a compaq and had it for the past 3 yrs had no problems with it so far

Dell is my first preference but since you are choosing between a Gateway and a Compaq, I would choose Compaq. I do not like the assembly model that Gateway uses to fabricate their machines.

buy the one that is reliable (both) but the compaq is probably cheaper to get parts and/or fix if something goes wrong b/c its more domestic and easier to get such parts for such a common device, whereas gateway (hardly anyone I know has one)...plus all the computers I have used are reliable compared to the ones from the 90's so....ne way you choose you are not going to lose....personally i would go compaq its ran by hp

i have a compaq laptop i am very impressed, but remember compaq is really Hewlett Packard and there build is very good. i would go for a compaq every time.

I have an elderly Compaq Presario and have had no problems.
