conversation...if someone uses a word or phrase that you do not understand, do you ask them what it means? IF you don't ask them, do you go home and look it up so you'll know for next time...or do you just ignore it...pretend you got, and move on?
I feel this constant need to understand every word I hear, even if the word was seemingly insignificant to the conversation...I am curious how many others are the same...
=)~

I always want to understand right then and there exactly what they are saying. I will stop people in mid sentence in order to ask. I absolute cannot stand when someone looks at me like I'm stupid just because I asked. I have a pretty extensive vocabulary that I use on a regular basis. Still, I'll run into words and terms I am unaware of. So yes, I ask. And if I don't get an answer that satisfies, I ask more questions. I'm greedy like that.

Yeah, Brickbaw is an a s s. ;-)
I think I'd probably have to ask them what the word or phrase meant, because I also need to understand every aspect of every conversation/phrase/word I hear. You might say I'm a "word-aholic". ;-p

I am the same way. I always want to know what the word means also and if I don't know I will ask my husband or someone else around me. I don't ask the person that said it though because then I would feel stupid.

If you're comfortable enough to ask, ask. If not then at least try to figure out in what context the word is being used and find out ASAP, this way you gain personal intelligence points..no one knows everything but we can always learn something new.

I wanna know everything I'm hearing, just so I can understand exactly what that other person is talking about. Yeah, I'd probably go home and ask family if they'd ever heard or used it before.

I don't expect everyone I talk to to be like reading Lemony Snicket, but I do appreciate when people explain ideas or words with which I am not familiar.

Context can usually give it away.
But if I don't understant it, I repeat the word in question form and they are glad to give me a definition.
I hate not knowing what words mean! It drives me nuts!

I used to look up every word I came across that I didn't know. Now I don't bother. I guess I just got over it.

I usually just pretend I know what they're talking about and either forget about it, or if I think about it ask someone in my family what it means, mom, sister, husband.

i usually ask or go look it up later.
i'm a little obsessive like that, but usually i'm the one explaining my word usage to others. my husband is constantly teasing me b/c of certain words i use. he'll say "who the heck uses the word 'blank' in everyday converstations??"
then i say "I DO!"
HA!
take care!
