I did all my dancing last century love so i cant remember what the intention was

That depends on what kind of dancing. Some certainly is as you say. Other dancing can be for religious or ritual purposes (eg. Whirling Dervishes in Turkey). Some is simply for exercise. Basically, young and energetic people have loved to dance since the dawn of time.
