Goldfish are susceptible to constipation and swim bladder. If it's a simple case of constipation, fasting him for 2 days should right the problem If it's the beginning of swim bladder there's no common cure and he'll probably deal with it on and off throughout his life. Feeding in smaller amounts and adding vegetable matter to it's diet will help with both. ie. cooked shelled peas (the frozen kind). He'll no doubt love them and peas work like a mild laxative on goldfish and help with buoyancy issues. Steamed broccoli, zucchini are a few that will help and are good for their overall health Keeping up with weekly water changes if you aren't already doing so. Some of the research I've done over the years for my goldfish indicate water quality can play a role in swim bladder as well

I had the same problem. Probably swim bladder. But can be other things. If its a Fancy goldfish They really do suffer. They need a varied diet. No fish flakes only sinking food. Blood worms. Cucumber, Peas, but shell the first (so they go in to halves) peeled potato. Any veg should be removed after 24 Hours.
Try and give it blood worm for a couple of days that sometimes works. If not treat it with waterlife octozin... Doesn't say it treats swim bladder, but its the best stuff for it. Trust me! Good Luck x

He was definitely not feeling well, but apparently he recovered. Sometimes a fish can go into shock when there is a change in the water temperature, like you just changed the water. Also, if it's really hot, they don't like that either and may start to go belly-up. Usually, placing a few ice cubes in the water will help. Goldfish like cooler temperatures. Sounds like your fishy is going to be okay, though. My goldfish is over 15 years old. Is that some kind of a record?

I caught my goldfish swimming upside down in his tank a while ago. I swear he does it to get a headrush cause he will swim in fast circles upside down and then he will right himself and just hover in one spot. Kinda like a kid who spins in circles to get dizzy and then stops suddenly to feel the after effects. When my fishie is not a being a goof he is perfectly normal.

No it's not normal sounds like he has a balancing problem I forget what it's called but the have a something inside that helps them float if something happens to that it can cause the to unbalance, You can get a liquid treatment for the tank that will help!

I would of thought he was dead to my gold fish used to do that in the days before it died. It proberly means its sick and too tired to swim but every so often it gets a burst of energy and starts to swim again

This sounds like a swim bladder problem, your local pet shop or aquatic shop should sell treatments to help this its either by interpet or king british, both are good brands.

no, it's not normal. usually it is got to do with the temperature or the water quality or the oxygen level in the tank.
