Seriously, I know "people have said this for years" but for a generation now it's been true. The good music from the 1950s through the mid-1970s never went out of style and had to come back as "classic" but was deemed "classic" in the 1980s when people were bailing on the new music, and almost none of the music from the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s will ever be considered classic - they had 1950s stations and shows in the 1970s, they'd have a lot of 1980s and some 1990s stations now if music from those decades was any good.

One thing I HAVE noticed is that once people become exposed to good music they don't go back - once you hear Hendrix you realize that the white hair-band leaders from the 1980s were horrible guitarists and once you hear Wes Montgomery and Freddie King you realize that jazz and blues guitarists were several times better than rock guitarists.

But why don't more people seek out quality? I guess I could have asked, with Hackerbrau available why drink Bud Light?

You said it best yourself - "people have said this for years", and also "this time it's true".

It's a generational thing. Just plain and simple.

May Eddie Van Halen and Steve Vai forgive you. But yeah, I do agree with you on most of the music of the last 5-10 years.

As far as Hendrix goes, not to pick on the deceased, but I noticed some of his playing could be very (probably going to get blasted for this, but) sloppy.
Just my opinion though.

you are right about "people have said this for years".

i hate rap/hip hop & heavy metal. my parents hated ozzy osbourne. my grandparents hated the beatles. my great grandparents hated glenn miller. and my great great grandparents hated "the charleston".

but the difference with today's crap is it doesn't require any real talent to do. all you have to do for heavy metal is get up on stage and yell your head off and say vulgar offensive things. and all you have to do for rap is rhyme words, make hand gestures, and say vulgar offensive things.i disagree with you about the 80's though. alot of classics came from that era. at least from the 80's down, musicians had to have SOME form of talent.

it all boils down to the media. kids are easily influenced by it. they could record buffalo farts and if the media makes it "cool" and "rebellious" you'd have millions of kids walking around listening to buffaloes expelling gas from their colons and kids would follow it religiously.

that may be a bit extreme, but you get the idea. but just watch. 20 years from now, kids of today will be complaining about what's "in" in 2027.

My friend, that's what's great about America - we can all have our opinions. I'm not forced to like what you like, and you are not forced to like what I like.
