Hey, Just wondering if the salads you can get a fast food restaurants are as healthy as if you made them at home and are they a good choice during pregnancy? Last weekend I had Arby's Chicken Club Salad - it comes w/ a big packet of ranch but I only use like a third of that packet on my salad and throw the rest away. I only eat out 2 or 3 times a month (always on the weekend, either on Saturday or Sunday night). What I usually choose is a salad w/ chicken like the one from Arby's. I just alternate the restaurant, sometimes it'll be Sonic's Grilled Chicken salad or Wendy's Chicken BLT or Mandarin Chicken Salad.
So what do you all think of getting salads from fast food restaurants during pregnancy?

yes they are fine.. its like making bagged salad at home.

Its what comes in it that may make it less healthy.. lets say lots of bacon and blue cheese and fatty dressing.

Choose a grilled chicken salad and a light dressing or balsamic vinaigrette

My doctor recommended them! I eat out every day for lunch....I never have time to pack them and salads always end up nasty for some reason (watery or whatever) or else people steal them. So I asked her the SAME question about the actual value of the salads lol, and she said they were great! She said to try to choose a low fat or fat free dressing, but if not to use only half the package of dressing and it would be fine. Also, whenever the choice....make sure it's grilled chicken, not breaded and to check the dates (because they don't sell as many as the burgers). So, I eat one nearly every day from.....Wendy's, Subway, McDonalds or Arbys and I was 23 weeks pregnant....havent gained a single pound (boy do I look pregnant though lol!!) and baby is perfectly healthy! Good Luck & enjoy!!

You should be weary of packaged salads. Many times they contain preservatives to stop the ingredients from drying out or changing colours. Also the more processing any food goes through the more likely it is to be contaminated, not that this is necessarily a high risk but it is an increased risk.

These are things to consider when buying any packaged salad. If you are going to eat take out salad, be sure to at least ask if they make the salads fresh everyday. And consider that they may have come in contact with deli meats, etc while being made.

I'm 34 1/2 weeks and I eat salads from Wendy's a couple times a week. My doctor said I could eat what I want as long as I use portion control...you know 1 salad, not a classic triple and a salad. Unless you have health issues, you're probably fine.

The problem I've found with fast-food salads (and those at sit down restaurants too actually) is all the cheese they put on them. Plus, the chicken always has a lot of fat, even the "grilled" stuff. Add the dressing to that and AHHHHHH!

Salads at fast food restaurants are fine. It is a much better choice then greasy burgers and fries. You are not eating out that often........even if you wanted a burger and fry.
