I have to make a decision on where to deliver. I want to deliver in a very well known hospital with a special very good maternity unit. This is my first, so I am trying to make a decision of traveling to this hospital which is about 45 mins from my home, or to the local hospital which is 15 mins but does not have as good of a ward. Does anyone have any advice?

Hey I went to Guatemala to pick up my child in the lobby of the Sheraton hotel!!!! That's pretty far . . .

Unless your pregnancy is consiered high risk, choose the closest one. If you expect problems, pick the special unit.

Our local hospital is only 5 minutes away. We chose to deliver #2 in the same hospital as #1 (which was in the town we had previously lived in) which was 30 miles and 45 minutes away. It's a much nicer birthing ward.

the hospital I am delivering at is about 1 hour from my house, but the local one I would be better off having the baby at home then go to.

Well my nearest hospital is 40 mins away and I'm gonna have to travel that no matter what. Given that everything I've read says that early labour 'usually' takes hours I'm not worried about the distance. Talk it through with your midwife or whoever you are under care of, they might be able to help

now This is up to you and how you want your baby to be care for. the hospital by our home and the th one that is 45 min from it is all the some i will think. they all have to meet the requirements a hospital needs to meet. but the only different may be the cast.

The hospital that I delivered at was 30 minutes away. I almost didn't make it. If you are not having any problems with this pregnancy and your Ob/gyn delivers at the closest hospital then I would have my baby there.

The travel was 2 hours away. Besides it takes a while for labor anyways. Do what you think is best for you and your baby. It will all work out in the end.
Good Luck!

well i was lucky enough to live 5 miles from my choice hospital, but my sister in law lived an hour away from emory and still went. unless you have an em,ergency< and they'll more than likely schedual your delivery if you have complications> then i think you will be fine. labor is a looonnnnnggggg process! Congrats and good luck!
