You can't ask someone to do what you yourself are not willing to do.
Treat others the way you want to be treated.
There are more valid reasons, pat answer or not, that follow along these lines.

Humans are fragile critters. Disrepect and rudeness can sometimes create reactions inside that you don't even know about. Think about these kids that shoot up their schools. What do you wanna bet that they were treated wrongly by a lot of people in their lives? When we are hurt, we react. Some people just react bigger than others.
Respect and courtesy go a long way in curbing some scary behaviors in others. They can also serve to build up and heal the damage done by others.

Well I treat people the way I would like to be treated, and if they dont treat me with respect then I show them no respect.
However with the way the world is going; I dont think anybody knows the meaning of respect or courtesy anymore
Teach your kids values so they dont grow up to be PUNKS!

Because we are all human and we all share this world. If you treat others with respect and courtesy, then those same people will one day (hopefully) treat you the same way. Even if not, you will be thought of and remembered as a decent human being.

Even if you always treat others with respect and courtesy, often you will still get treated very poorly in return. It is important to continue to treat others with courtesy because of your own self respect. Do not allow yourself to sink to the level of the barbarians because it debases all of society and espec. yourself.

dont you want to be treated with respect and coutesy? traet people how YOU want to be treated. don't expect to be treated with respect and coutesy if you treat people like sh*t.
