Correct me if I am wrong, I am not educated in these matters.

Now I always thought there were 3 main classes here in the UK: The upper class, or 'aristocracy' (fairly self explanitory).

The Middle class, affluent, educated people typified by the likes of Doctors, Solicitors etc etc (a generalisation I know, but you get my drift).

The working class, characterised by people with jobs or trades rather than careers.

Now my family has always been resolutely 'working class'; whilst we are fairly well educated we've never had careers or occupations of 'repute', but we are hard working, literate and happy in our social niche. We live in 3 bedroom semi suburbia and all work hard at steady, albeit unskilled, jobs and are generally honest, law abiding and possessed of a strong work ethic.

So were does 'yob/ chav' culture (the thugs and benefit scroungers) fit in? While the working class may not be affluent or skilled we're generally hard working- has another class evolved?

The "thugs and benefit scroungers" are the lower class, which has always been there. Middle class can be divided into upper and lower middle class, with white collar in upper and blue collar in lower.

ah the chav yobs and benifit scroungers as you put are a new breed they are below normal working class they don't work they steal and try to get anything for nothing and get away with murder. though there are an odd few who do work i'll give them that. though you have to remember the upper class only get rich off the working class backs.

They are the "underclass".

They can only exist in a socialist society. What worries ME is that they are allowed to breed, and now we have second , even third generation underclass.

They always seem to be able to find money for cigarettes, too.
