It would be considered the south...possibly the southeast....but certainly not the southwest.
As you can see from this link...it is excluded from the southwest
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southwest_United_States
It is included in the Southeast
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southeastern_United_States
It is nearly always included in the South
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_United_States
Sometimes considered part of the "Deep South"

Historically Louisiana is very much part of the South. In modern times it is sometimes lumped with Texas in the Southwest because it is also an oil producing state. However, it has much more in common with the states to the east--Mississippi and Alabama.

It could actually be considered by both southeast or southwest. Due to its land, upper land and lower land. It is unique in many respects..its cultures, traditions, government voting, and speech accents. It is a remarkable area that is for certainty.

I would think southeast but the way they do things are on the map as far as what's east and what's west, it's hard to say.

I would use the Mississippi River as the dividing line. Louisiana has land on both sides of the river.
