Epilepsy is a neurological condition - also called seizure disorder. The exact causes are often unknown although they can be a result of head trauma and/or family history.

Typically some will get sleepy after a seizure occurs. The degree of the seizure can vary.

Treatment is available for this. There are several varities of prescription medication available. If you are having these, whether they are mild or severe, it's wise to see a neurologist for proper diagnosis & treatment.

There is a lot of information at epilepsy.com that will be very informative.

As a family member to someone who has this, it's been manageable for us. We keep on medication, see our doctor regularly, keep a medical journal, get plenty of sleep, eat properly, stay away from alcohol & that seems to minimize them.

My family member can now sense what he knows are "triggers" & take measures to often prevent an onset of a seizure.

Your best defense is a good offense. Get the facts from a doctor - a neurologist if you can. Follow his/her instructions & learn what you can from informative web sites and/or brochures available.

If you do indeed have this, you may have difficulty renewing a driver's license. States typically have a form that must be completed & signed by your doctor stating you are fit to drive. Talk with your doctor & ask him if you are ok to drive as it can be very dangerous to drive if you have epilepsy.
