i was given a puppy as a gift from my ex boyfriend... he had taken out a loan to buy him, then paid for him with his credit card and used the loan to pay his credit car company. i had decided to help him pay half of the loan which was 500 as well as bein the sole caretaker of the dog which i have now had for 6 months. i have every single vet bill we have encountered and i care for this dog like he was my child. we have broken up since then and he is threatening to take the dog away and take me to court.. i am not sure if this is possible and what i can do to keep my puppy who i care more about then myself... please can someone shed light on this situation

you don't have much to worry about, the vet bills under your name say it all AND the pup was a gift even IF you offered to help in the payment. The worst that'll happen IF it is taken to court (though I highly doubt it) is you'll have to pay the remainder of the cost for the dog minus what you've already paid him and cost of vet and care. So if the dog was $1000 and you've already paid him 400 and have paid medical bills of 200 and food and stuff of another 200, that's already 800 so you'll have to pay him 200. that's the worst case scenario.

he's just trying to bait you with his immaturity. and tell him so.

You are not legally responsible for his credit card debt. The puppy was a gift so he has no rights of ownership.

Therefore he can not take your dog and has no standing in court. He is just pressuring, tell him to get lost.

How he payed for the puppy has no actual bearing on the question. If the puppy was a gift, then it's yours. Tell your ex to stop being a jerk, accept the break-up and allow both of you, and the puppy, to get on with your lives.

If the dog is registered to you then you should have no problems
Besides the dog was a gift
You have been the caretaker
He is just mad
Try not to worry about it

I think his bark is worse than his bite. I don't think I would worry too much about it. It sounds to me like he's barking up the wrong tree.
