If your car is brand new, I would suggest checking out the following:

*Tire pressure (too low?)

*Filters (mentioned above, good call).

*Cheap gasoline (not price, necessarily, but quality, octane -doesn't have to racing fuel-. It should be whatever the manufacturer recommends, and from a reputable, mainstream provider (stay away from the "El Cheapo" brands).

Worse comes to worse, have the dealer deal with it (warranty work?).

Good luck, I hope this helps.

I assume that you are referring to the actual mileage is lower than the window sticker says it is. If you want to get this mileage drive everywhere like an old lady and never accelerate or exceed 55 mph. Driving habits are the biggest cause of poor mileage, followed right behind by poor maintenance. On a new car it is going to be the first.
Things that contribute to poor mileage.
Cold weather, low tire pressure, short trips, rapid acceleration, high speeds, etc.
The EPA test is done under controlled conditions by a professional driver.

Traditionally new cars will experience poor mileage in the first couple oil changes and then it will get better. You will rarely or never get the correct mileage that is indicated on the window sticker. They don't not road test for mileage. They hook the cars to equipment in a warehouse some where and fake it. I have heard of a product called a gas pill that can boost your M/P/G or M/P/L.

you could drive like that also but I might be tempted to push you out of the way
