I know that I ovulated on around December 1st 2006 and so I should be 8th week pregnant by now. I went to the sdoctor yesterday and they did ultrasound scans (both abdominal and transvaginal) but they only found an empty sac with no embryo and no heartbeat. They said that the sac looks like of the size of 6 weeks and they are concluding that probablythere was a miscarriage. I never bled or didn't have any major cramps since the time I conceived. Dr is asking me to go for a D&C. What do you think? Do I still have any hope? Should I wait for another 2-3 weeks and go for a second u/s scan? Please let me know your advices/comments. It's hard to believe that I had a miscarriage without any bleeding or cramps.

I am also very sorry if you did indeed loose you baby. I never heard of a MC that didn't have any pain or spotting, but your doctor know more than we do. Maybe you just lost the baby and you body hasn't expelled it yet (therefor there would be no cramping or blood). I would definitely wait a few weeks to go forward with a DC though, those things can sometimes do more harm than good. I would say that after a week, if you don't naturally pass your baby, go back and do the DC.

I am so very sorry hun but it sounds like a "missed miscarriage" I am 8 weeks pregnant as well and I had a miscarriage last night. It came out of nowhere and I am devistated so I know how you are feeling! Its even harder for you because you havent had the cramping and bleeding that I had which was basically hard proof what was going on inside of me. I think if you would feel more comfortable getting a second opinion before going for the D&C that it would be fine as long as you do it soon. You dont want to get infected on top of everything else. Doctors do make mistakes, they are not PERFECT no matter how much schooling they have had...take it from personal experiences, they can be WRONG sometimes and in this case involving a child, I would get a second opinion from a different doctor but do it very soon. Good luck and I will be praying for you!

I experienced the same thing a few years ago. Doctor said it's considered a "missed abortion". I would have started bleeding eventually and often when people who miscarry do see blood, development has actually stopped some time before. Unfortunately, if they did not see a heartbeat, waiting will not help. I do feel for you, finding this out for myself was heartbreaking.

They did a D&C on me, as I has been planning to travel 2 days after finding out. If you don't do the D&C, the body will eventually expel the embryo and uterine lining, etc. It might be easier for you to deal with if you let them do the D&C, it will be over with very quickly and there is usually minimal bleeding after. I don't recall having any pain or bleeding afterwards actually.

I was told something just did not develop properly and it was Nature just doing its job. Luckily I got pregnant again and everything was normal and fine. I wish you good luck and strength. I completely understand what it's like.

I had a miscarriage at 18 1/2 weeks with no bleeding or cramps until i went into labor and delivered a dead 13 week sized baby. I had no clue that there was any problem. It is called a missed miscarriage, if you feel more comfortable you can wait, but I would listen to your doctor. The longer you wait the more complications you can have.

I am sorry

Same thing happened to my sister!!!!! She had a bit of spotting and went to the ER, they told her that they could not find an embryo, the doctor told her she had miscarried~but a friend of hers who is a nurse told her to wait a few days and go back to see if her HCG levels had rose any--they did, which meant she was still pregnant! She is 11 weeks this week, and she has had another ultrasound and the doctor said the baby was small but seemed healthy and everything looked alright!!! So one docotr told her it was a miscarriage but she went with her heart and waited..and now she has small due in August! Just go with your heart...go to another dr. in a week or so and see what they say! (my sister had both of those ultrsounds) and then a lady that worked @ the hospital that she went to school with called my sister a few days tlater and told her that she was a couple of weeks further along than my sis and they couldn't see her baby either--just check the HCG levels and go wtih your gut feeling! You could have had a miscarriage--i'm not a dr--but I do know it happened to my sister and a woman she knew! Good Luck !

I also had a "missed miscarriage". I went in for a 20 week sonogram and my baby had no heartbeat. My doctor guessed he passed away somewhere around 13 weeks. I also experienced no bleeding and had no idea that anything was wrong. I was too far into pregnancy to have a D and C. They had to induce labor and I had a stillbirth. It was horrible and I'm so sorry to hear about your baby but my advice would be to listen to your doctor. There is no hope without a heartbeat.

I had the same thing with my pregnancy last year at 8 weeks, it was a blighted ovum, and on top of that I had a "missed miscarriage" where I didn't miscarry on my own right away.

You can wait a few weeks to see if it will eventually pass on your own, but if you feel really uncomfortable about having the contents of conception in you for all that time I'd go with the D&C.

It will take you about three cycles for your uterine lining to rebuild to support another pregnancy. Please remember - just because this happened once doesn't mean that it will happen again.

Ultrasounds can be wrong, even after 12 weeks.

Also D&C is more risky that "watchful waiting" in case of a miscarriage that hasn't started though the baby had died. Doctors just like to do D&Cs because a) they figure women want it "over with" b) they don't want to get sued if you get sick, doing something always looks better than waiting. I could mention money and image, but I will bite my tongue. If your pregnancy has stopped you will miscarry eventually, no need for doctor intervention unless you have complications.

Just be sure to take your temperature every day and seek medical attention if you run a fever, or if you feel dizzy, weak, fatigued (more than normal) or just "off"

Best of luck.
